Supply Side Food Self-Sufficiency Ratio Database (2010-2023)
This public application provides country-level SSFSSR results for 2010-2023, developed in accordance with the 10 Principles for Calculating Food Self-Sufficiency Ratios (10-PCFSSR). To the best of the knowledge of the Development Research Group, this is the world's first public application designed to calculate and present national food self-sufficiency ratios in a unified manner under common conditions. Provided for academic research, policy research, and other non-commercial purposes. All values are expressed as percentages (%). Blank indicates data not available. SSFSSR is an indicator developed to measure the extent to which each country can meet its domestic food supply through its own food production. This database was developed in accordance with the 10 Principles for Calculating Food Self-Sufficiency Ratios (10-PCFSSR).
To the best of the knowledge of the Development Research Group, this is the world's first public application designed to calculate and present national food self-sufficiency ratios in a unified manner under common conditions.
Main Data Sources
- FAO FAOSTAT, Food Balances (2010-)
- Where necessary: World Bank Open Data, USDA open data, and national government statistics
- A sufficient number of food items and an appropriate balance among them must be ensured.
- Primary and secondary products must both be appropriately represented, and their differences must be reflected in the calculation.
- In principle, the same dataset must be used for calculating food self-sufficiency ratios across countries.
- All data used in the calculation must be publicly available free of charge and be reliable.
- The data sources used in the calculation should be concentrated in one place.
- Continuity in the data used must be ensured.
- If estimates are included, the reasons for and methods of estimation must be clearly stated.
- The calculated results must be reproducible.
- The method must be applicable under common conditions across countries.
- The formula must be clear and publicly disclosed.

Zenodo: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18889852 (64-commodity basis)
In this database, 64 commodities are classified into primary and secondary products. All are converted into a primary-product basis in caloric terms using PPCR (Primary Product Conversion Rate).
The world average is included as a reference value, so the actual number of countries is one less than shown.
Unit: Percentage (%)
